RE: Buy a NEWER RV with MORE miles vs OLDER RV with FEWER miles?

Hey guys just a little update...I went newer with more miles. I am purchasing a 2001 Fleetwood Tioga 29V with a chevy 454 has 80K miles for $12,500. Very clean unit everything works and purrs like a kitten. Not sure if its a good deal but I feel like it is, alot of you say its a good deal as long as your (I'm) happy. Now all I have to do is dump the toyhauler. Thanks everyone for you help through this process. http://djmiranda.com/images/tioga.jpg height=294 width=359

RE: Buy a NEWER RV with MORE miles vs OLDER RV with FEWER miles?

We are not in a rush and I do know that in the winter the toy-hauler sales go up and I am under the impression that rv sales go down. This should be a good time to dump my trailer and deal on the rv. We are taking our time and strolling through the process.

RE: Buy a NEWER RV with MORE miles vs OLDER RV with FEWER miles?

Gale Hawkins & Ripsnort, I am being very patient. We know what size and layout we want. We have a budget and we are ready to act now. Im just waiting for the right deal to come around and asking as many questions to everyone here on the forum as I come across them. After reading everyones responses me and the wife have come to the conclusion that we want to buy 99 or newer because of the chassis mods and engine improvements. If anyone has anything else to add please do... I have got nothing but good advise. Thanks, DJ

RE: Buy a NEWER RV with MORE miles vs OLDER RV with FEWER miles?

Are you talking for the same money or what? No not really... I have seen the 90's for as little as 6-7K and the 2000's for as much as 18K. I know I'm all over the map... I'm just confused on what to buy. I know I want a 24fter with a rear bed.

RE: Buy a NEWER RV with MORE miles vs OLDER RV with FEWER miles?

You didn't say what the mileage was, or the vintage, but generally speaking I would go with the newer unit, it will have newer technology in its design, like fuel injection is a biggie, 4 or 5 speed transmission also. If its well maintained the drivetrain should last 200K miles, that's a lot of years at the rate you will be putting them on. So go newer. IMO. I dont have a model in mind but I have been seeing alot 95-98 for sale for cheap with 30-40K miles for way less than I would find a 2000-2001 with 80K miles. Thats what I meant.

Buy a NEWER RV with MORE miles vs OLDER RV with FEWER miles?

Should I buy the low milage older model or the newer model with high mileage? What is your take on this? I am looking to spend around 15K on a 24ft class C. Thanks

RE: 2001 FOUR WINDS 5000 Series 23A for $18K is it worth it?

I didnt think that 79K was such a big deal, I thought these units like cars are built to go 200K easy. I have around $15K to deal with... I'll keep my eyes and ears open for a better deal. Im going to give it a shot though Im gonna offer $12.5K and walk away. thanks guys

RE: 2001 FOUR WINDS 5000 Series 23A for $18K is it worth it?

Cars are differ and I never bought a used car before, my toyhauler purchase was straight from the mfg with no haggle. We went to see it over a month ago and its still on the lot. I showed some interest that day but never called back, they called me a couple of weeks ago and I told them I wasn't ready. Its still on the lot.

2001 FOUR WINDS 5000 Series 23A for $18K is it worth it?

Me and my wife are looking to purchase a 2001 FOUR WINDS 5000 Series 23A with 79K mile dealer is asking $17995.00. What should I offer? What's the most I Should pay? NADA list this rv at $13,302-$16,025. Is 79K miles considered high milage? One last thing the dealer has an offer if we pay the asking price they will throw in the 100K mile extended warranty for the unit on engine and tranny, prob not worth it. Thanks in advance, -D

RE: Brake lights problems on the WW

I would first connect the TH to another truck as a process of elimination. "X" the suggestion I just read you checked your truck connections.

RE: Im thinking of getting a used class C and selling the TH.

DraginRat, 15K TOW! Its not that serious. Im looking at any class "C" I can afford that can tow 3.5K. Im looking to spend 15-20K cash. Its true you get what you pay for but I dont want another payment. I bought my toy hauler cash and I want to keep the RV that way, if we decide to purchase one.

RE: Im thinking of getting a used class C and selling the TH.

Don't forget when you go somewhere in the Class C and set up camp, your stuck. It's nice to unhook and have the freedom of a truck to get around. We often need to run to the store or just like the ability to run into town if we wish. A good plus on the toy hauler...

RE: Im thinking of getting a used class C and selling the TH.

you probably will not be happy with the size of the fresh water and holding tanks on a class C, unless you're only going to use it for short trips? I only have a 50 gallon tank now and I never fill it up all the way. I went to pismo last week and used about 30 gallons.
